In 2001, the Abu Dhabi Government initiated a policy to monitor and stop poorly maintained vehicles from operating on U.A.E. roads by opening a series of vehicle inspection centers. The inspection centers help authorities to keep heavy polluters off the roads, and help to reduce the burden on the environment.
According to federal laws, vehicle registration authorities can refuse to register a vehicle which exceeds government-set ceilings on emissions. The ceiling for hydrocarbon gas emission is 500 parts per million. For diesel emissions, two separate ceilings have been set. |
